Who Will You Serve Today?

One of the greatest speeches recorded in the Bible is in Joshua 24:1-28. Joshua was chosen by God to lead His chosen people into the promised land. Now, Joshua was giving his final instructions to them before dying to this world.

Joshua knew that the people would be tempted to serve the idols of the world and turn their backs on God. He also knew that this would cause them to lose everything, and they would be destroyed. Please stop reading this and read this passage for yourself.

Joshua confronts Israel with the choice to pick a side. They must choose to continue living as they are, worshiping the false gods and idols, or to choose to live for and worship God. They could not do both. They were confronted with the reality that it is impossible to fully live and worship God and still live as the rest of the world.

Let’s take a moment and think through where you have come from. Based on your family and upbringing, how have you been taught to make choices and to live each day? Which of these daily choices are not in line with God’s commands? Which of these choices have contributed to you being unhealthy? I implore you to write these down and make a choice that today you decide who you will serve.

I hope you can see that the decisions that seem like the norm to you have led you to this point today and that God calls you to a life of health and living to worship Him. It is what is best for you and your family today and in the future. Choose God and His ways and He will deliver you into His best.

GOD IS FAITHFUL

God is true to His Word. He accomplishes all His promises and covenants He establishes. He is constant and unchanging. God is unwavering in His pursuit of His chosen people. God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our affections and reciprocal faithfulness to Him. He is true to Himself. He will forever be faithful.

Deuteronomy 7:9-11 NIV

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments. But those who hate Him He will repay to their face by destruction; He will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate Him. Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.

Psalm 25:8-10 NIV

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in His ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of His covenant.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NIV

May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.
