Eating to Maintain Health

Before Day 1 of your TRIP, we gave you a link to access a Calories to Lose Weight Calculator. From this, you are able to determine your personal calories needed for your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), calories to maintain your current weight and calories to lose weight. The BMR is the number of calories you need each day to maintain your continual body functions while resting and the digestive system is inactive. For most people 70% of your calories goes towards keeping your body functioning without exercise or digestion.

Your Calories to Lose Weight amount is already lower than the BMR amount based on your current physical components. As you are restricting your calories under the BMR, your body compensates by using the stored calories in your fat cells. Eating too few calories over time may result in low energy levels, hair loss, constantly hungry, not sleeping well, irritable, feeling cold, constipated or having anxiety. So, how many of those symptoms are you feeling?

Remember, that this is a journey and not a race. You are making purposeful choices for your physical health. Do not try to force quicker results by eating fewer than your minimum calories to lose weight. We want you to be safe, stay on the path and allow the process to work for you.
